The authors discuss systems whose input-output operators are of the form \(I+T\), with T a \({\mathcal P}\)-semi-separable operator defined by \(T=\int_{{\mathcal P}}PK_ 1dP+\int_{{\mathcal P}}dPK_ 2P,\) where \({\mathcal P}\) is a continuous chain of orthogonal projections on a separable Hilbert space and \(K_ 1\), \(K_ 2\) are bounded linear operators of finite rank. A characterization of such an operator is given when it is invertible, and a formula for \((I+T)^{-1}\) is derived from the connection between the operator and the corresponding system.
