    Let \(\alpha =\{I_ n,n\in {\mathbb{Z}}\}\) be a cover of the real line \(R^ 1\) consisting of disjoint half-open intervals \(I_ n=[\alpha_ n,\alpha_{n+1})\) whose union is \(R^ 1\), and let f be a p-locally integrable function on \(R^ 1\), \(p\geq 1\). By putting \[ (*)\quad \| f\|_{p,q,\alpha}=\{\sum_{n}[\int_{I_ n}| f(x)|^ pdx]^{q/p}\}^{1/q} \] (q\(\geq 1\); if either \(p=\infty\) or \(q=\infty\) the expression in (*) is modified in the usual way), the authors of the present paper define the irregular amalgam: \[ (L^ p,\ell^ q)_{\alpha}=\{f:\| f\|_{p,q,\alpha}<\infty \}. \] The amalgam \((L^ p,\ell^ q)_{\alpha}\) is called regular if \(\alpha =\{I_ n=[n,n+1),n\in {\mathbb{Z}}\}.\) In the paper some inclusion relations are investigated between the amalgams by the variation of p, q and \(\alpha\). It is stated (Theorem 10) that the translation operators \(T_ t: (T_ tf)(x)=f(x-t)\), are continuous on \((L^ p,\ell^ q)_{\alpha}\) with uniform bound of their norms \((r\in R^ 1)\), if and only if, \((L^ p,\ell^ q)_{\alpha}\) is equivalent to the regular amalgam.
