The Bernstein problem concerns the classification of the so called stationary evolutionary operators, which describe the transmission of genetic material under some restrictions. In mathematical terms, the Bernstein problem is equivalent to the problem of finding, for every Bernstein algebra, all ``stochastic'' bases and their multiplication constants. This problem has been solved by several authors in dimension \(\leq 5\) but only with some extra hypotheses in dimension \(6\). The paper under review is devoted to the solution of the Bernstein problem for all the cases left in dimension 6. This is achieved by a careful analysis of several subcases.
