The author gives an expository account of the result that every admissible representation of a real reductive group has a canonical system of Sobolev norms parametrized by positive characters of a minimal parabolic subgroup, by studying the specific groups \(SL(2, \mathbb{R})\) and \(SL(3, \mathbb{R})\). By examining the results on these groups, the author conjectures that if \((\pi,G,V)\) is a unitary admissible representation of \(G\), the two Hilbertian structures on \(V\), namely the canonical structure obtained by the author and the unitary structure on \(V\), always coincide. This conjecture if true would help in the determination of the unitary dual \(\widehat G\) of a real reductive group \(G\). The author further claims the validity of his results for representations of \(p\)-adic reductive groups, as a remark.
