A detailed mathematical study of the force operator spectrum is carried out for a linear MHD system. An ideal plasma is assumed to occupy a cylindrical domain of finite length along the \(z\)-axis (the general screw pinch). The stationary and the static equilibrium state quantities, such as the external magnetic field \(\overline{B}=(0,B_ \theta(r),B_ z(r))\), the pressure \(p\) and the density \(\rho\), are assumed to depend on the radial variable \(r\) only.
