This is a classical limit result for the time evolution (of Gaussian packets) given by the periodic time-dependent Schrödinger operator \(- d^ 2/dx^ 2+v(x,t)\) on a bounded interval with Neumann boundary conditions and with \(v\in {\mathcal C}^{2+\delta}\). Loosely speaking, it is shown that, in contradistinction to the whole space problem, the evolution approaches an oscillator-type propagation along the classical path only if corrected with suitable unitaries at all intermediate times whenthe classical trajectory hits the boundary. It is hence speculated that the classical behaviour may be chaotic even in cases where the quantum evolution is very regular (the Floquet operator has pure point spectrum).
