The mathematical problem studied in the paper is the following: Find a harmonic function \(V\) in the half space \(z\geq 0\), vanishing at infinity and satisfying the conditions enumerated below. At \(z=0\), \(V(\rho,\varphi,0)=v(\rho,\varphi)\) for \(a<\rho<b\) and \(0\leq\varphi\leq 2\pi\); \(\partial V/\partial z=0\) for \(\rho<b\) or \(\rho<a\), \(0\leq\varphi\leq 2\pi\). This is the Dirichlet problem for a circular annulus for the half-space \(z\geq 0\). The novelty of the problem is that the function \(v(\rho,\varphi)\) is not an axisymmetric function, for which the problem was solved by many authors, in many variants. Using some new results, obtained by the author himself, published in ``Applications of potential theory in mechanics. A selection of new results'' (Kluwer, 1989, Zbl 0744.73016). The author reduces the problem to the set of two bidimensional Fredholm equations, with non-singular kernel. This set can be decoupled easily. The author asserts that the method can be generalized for spherical and toroidal coordinates, too.
