Continuing his joint work with \textit{G. Nickel} [Differ. Integral Equ. (to appear)], the author discusses a linear age-dependent population equation with spatial diffusion and spatial dependence of birth and death rates. Using sophisticated methods from semigroup theory such as extrapolation spaces and evolution semigroups and from the spectral theory of positive operators, he obtains wellposedness of the equation and a detailed description of the asymptotic behavior of the solutions.
