In the present paper, the author describes all orientable compact stable hypersurfaces in many non-simply connected hyperbolic space forms. For example, the following theorem is proved. Theorem. Let \(\Gamma\) be a subgroup of the orientation preserving isometries of the hyperbolic space \(H^{n+1}\). Suppose that \(\Gamma\) fixes a horosphere \(H_0\) (or a hyperplane). Then, the connected components of an orientable compact stable constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in \(H^{n+1}/\Gamma\) are either (round) spheres or \(H/\Gamma\), where \(H\) is a horosphere (or a hyperplane) parallel to \(H_0\). Furthermore, there is at most one connected component of the first type. This nice result follows from a delicate study of stability in a certain warped product with a one-dimensional factor. The point is that in such a Riemannian manifold \(M^{n+1}\), a nontrivial closed conformal field exists. This gives rise to a foliation whose compact leaves are stable constant mean curvature hypersurfaces of \(M^{n+1}\). Further delicate arguments show that in \(M^{n+1}\) a result like the one stated above holds true.
