The authors give some sufficient conditions for a mapping of a real Hilbert space into itself to be a diffeomorphism. These conditions are used to obtain an existence and uniqueness result for the boundary value problem \[ u''+ g(t,u)= f(t),\quad u(0)= u(2\pi)= 0, \] under the assumption that for some integer \(n\) and all \(t\), \(u\) the inequality \(n^2< g_u(t,u)< (n+ 1)^2\) holds.
