The author investigates the wellposedness of the Cauchy problem \[ \begin{aligned} Au(t,x)= f(t,x)\quad &\text{on }[0,T]\times \mathbb{R},\\ u(0, x)= g(x)\quad &\text{on }\mathbb{R},\end{aligned} \] where \[ Au(t,x)= {\partial\over\partial t} u(t,x)+ {\partial^3\over\partial x^3} u(t,x)+ a(x) {\partial\over\partial x} u(t,x)+ b(x) u(t,x). \] The coefficients \(a(x)\) and \(b(x)\) are complex valued functions belonging to \(B^\infty\). It is shown that the following condition on the imaginary part \(a_I(x)\) of \(a(x)\) \[ \Biggl|\int^y_x a_I(s) ds\Biggr|\leq K|x- y|^{1/2} \] is necessary and sufficient for the \(L^2\)-wellposedness of the above problem.
