The paper under review deals with the study of equicontinuous subsets of mappings defined on an almost metrizable topological group. A main result is the following interesting criterion: Let \(X\) be the union of \(G_\delta \)-subsets of \(G\), \(Y\) a uniform space and \(\mathcal{H}\) a set of continuous mappings of \(X\) into \(Y\); then for \(\mathcal{H}\) to be equicontinuous, it is sufficient (and obviously also necessary) that the sequence \((h_n(x),h_n(x_n))_{n\in \mathbb{N}}\) be eventually in every entourage of \(Y\) for each sequence \((h_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}\) in \(\mathcal{H}\), each \(x\in X\) and each sequence \((x_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}\) such that \(\lim_{n\rightarrow \infty }x_n=x\). From this criterion it follows that the equality of left and right uniform structures on an almost metrizable group \(G\) can be decided by sequences. Finally, and extending a previous result by the author with G. Hansel, it is proved that if \(G\) is a Čech-complete topological group and \(\mathcal{U}_L(G) \) (respectively \(\mathcal{U}_R(G)\)) denotes the complex Banach space of all bounded left (respectively right) uniformly continuous mappings of \(G\) into \(\mathcal{C}\), then the space \(\mathcal{U}_L(G)/(\mathcal{U}_L(G)\cap \mathcal{U}_R(G))\) contains a linear isometric copy of \(l^\infty \).
