    The author showed that there exists a unique local solution of the Cauchy problem for second order weakly hyperbolic equations under the assumptions that the coefficients satisfy logarithmic conditions. Though the solutions have large regularity loss, the author shows the existence theorem by a contraction mapping in a skillful weighted Sobolev space.
