The authors develop an a posteriori construction of an optimal grid by redistribution of a fixed number of nodes for the numerical integration of systems of two-point boundary value problems. Thus, earlier results for scalar problems are generlized. The discussion is based on superconvergent grid functions using improved trapezoidal schemes. Proofs of stability and fourth-order truncation error convergence are reported. Solutions of test problems with severe boundary layers illustrate the advantages of the approach.
