The author presents a theory of the time-evolution of mean values or expected values of physically significant quantities; the main thrust is on the (local) energy of the system. The theory consists of two ingredients: the stoss (Zahlansatz) map and the energy conserving linear map. A neat formulation of statistical physics is thus arrived without getting involved in paradoxes/pathologies. The general formulation is illustrated by a copious set of examples: heat conduction, heat assisted diffusion, diffusion in a potential.
