The author identifies conditions on the Walsh-Fourier coefficients of a given function \(f\) under which the Walsh-Fourier series of \(f\) converges in \(L^1\) norm or in \(H^1\) norm. He is very careful to relate his conditions to those already available in the literature (e.g., due to Móricz, Grow and Stanojević). It turns out that except for the Aubertin-Fourier conditions, the author's results are more general than each one of the previously known conditions. The proof, which begins by reducing the problem to consideration of generalized de la Vallée Poussin means, uses the dyadic Sidon inequality of Móricz and Schipp and the author's own shifted Sidon inequality which appeared in J. Math. Anal. Appl. 193, No. 3, 715-836 (1995; Zbl 0836.42017).
