Let \(N\) be a closed oriented smooth 4-dimensional manifold and let \(\xi\) denote an integral second homology class of \(N\). What is the minimal genus \(g_\xi\) of a smoothly embedded orientable surface representing \(\xi\)? This problem is called the minimal genus smooth embedding problem and was studied by several authors during the last years. In the present paper the minimal genus smooth embedding problem is solved completely for all manifolds \(N\) which are the total space of an \(S^2\)-bundle over an orientable surface.
