The authors present some topics of a theory of integral representation for some types of variational functionals taking extended real values and possibly being not finite also on large classes of regular functions. The theory has been applied to obtain some classical results concerning the gradient constrained relaxation and the more advanced ones concerning gradient constrained homogenization.
