After the book ``Gabor analysis and algorithms: Theory and applications'' (\textit{H. G. Feichtinger} and \textit{Th. Strohmer} (eds.), Birkhäuser 1997; Zbl 0890.42004), this second book, devoted to the subject of time-frequency representation, shows that there are still many interesting and useful aspects of Gabor analysis, in particular in the discrete setting. The book of R. Tolimieri and M. An treats with Weyl-Heisenberg representations over \textit{finite} abelian groups and with multirate filter structures over free abelian groups of \textit{finite} rank. The authors present a unified approach to the topic based on group theory. The first four chapters present an overview of abelian group theory, in particular of Fourier analysis over finite abelian groups and some results from linear algebra. The following chapters 5-15 consider Weyl-Heisenberg systems. In particular, the Zak transform is used for the study of Weyl-Heisenberg systems. Raz-Wexler biorthogonal functions and biorthogonal functions derived from frame operators are examined. Computational aspects are included. The chapters 16-17 develop multirate filter structures over free abelian groups of finite rank. The basis theorem for subgroups of free abelian groups plays a significant role throughout these chapters. An application to financial modeling written by \textit{S. Adak} and \textit{A. Sarkar} completes the book. (Note that only the chapters 6 and 8 of the above mentioned book by H. G. Feichtinger and Th. Strohmer deal with finite abelian groups).
