The authors study Lagrange's formula for solution of polynomial interpolation of finding a polynomial \(f\) of degree less than or equal to \(N-1\), for given \(N\) nodes and stated interpolation conditions. Their main aim is to show that Lagrange's classical formula can be generalised to tangential interpolation problems of finding rational vector functions under specified conditions involving poles and pole chains. Applying the generalised formula they obtain a formula of the inverse of generalised Cauchy-Vandermonde matrices which generalises various known results. They have also indicated various other situations where an application of the generalised Lagrange's formula can be made.
