The authors study the existence of heteroclinic orbits for systems of ordinary differential equations of the form \[ a_i(u_i,u_i')u_i''-qc_i(u_i,u_i')u_i'+M_i(u_i,u_i')u_i'+f_i(u)=0, \quad i=1,\dots ,n, \eqno(1) \] satisfying the monotonicity conditions \[ \frac{\partial f_i}{\partial u_j}\geq 0, \quad\frac{\partial M_i}{\partial u_j}\geq 0,\quad i\neq j . \] It is assumed that \(f(u_+)=f(u_-)=0\) for some vectors \(u_+\) and \(u_-\). The problem is to find solutions (and the constant \(q\)) of (1) satisfying \[ \lim_{\xi\to\pm\infty}u(\xi )=u_{\pm}. \] The problem relates to the existence of travelling wave solutions for parabolic systems of equations. The proof is carried out by means of the implicit function theorem. The results obtained are applied to prove the existence of travelling waves for the system describing a multicomponent plasma sustained by a laser beam.
