Using a generalized degree technique and reduction to suitable invariant subspaces, the authors consider the \(\tau\)-periodic solutions of a semilinear wave equation of the form \[ \partial_t^2v - \alpha_0^2 \partial_x^2v - g(x,v) = h(x,t) \] with Dirichlet conditions \[ v(0,t) = v(L,t) = 0, \quad x \in \,]0,L[, \quad t \in \mathbb R. \] They obtain multiplicity results under various conditions upon \(\alpha_0\), \(g\) and \(h.\) In all cases, \(g\) has at most linear growth. In particular, the autonomus equation \((h \equiv 0)\) admits at least two nontrivial solutions for a restricted infinite set of periodic such that the nonlinearity interacts with one simple eigenvalue of the corresponding linear problem.
