This paper deals with the existence and uniqueness problem of positive fixed points for a class of mixed monotone operators in an ordered Banach space. Some inequalities, together with additional assumptions, are proven to be both sufficent and necessary for the existence and uniqueness of positive fixed points. Finally, the integral equation \[ x(t)=(Ax)(t)=\int_{\mathbb R^N}k(t,s)[2+x(s)^{\alpha ( \| x\| )}+x(s)^{-\alpha (\| x\| )}]ds \] is considered as an illustrative example.
