An \(n\times n\) real matrix \(A\) is called completely positive if it can be factored as \(A=B^tB\), where \(B\) is an \(m\times n\) matrix with nonnegative entries. The subject of complete positivity originated from a question by Mordell, involving doubly nonnegative quadratic forms. The author summarizes a number of known results on completely positive matrices. He uses cone theory to give a necessary and sufficient condition for a doubly nonnegative matrix to be completely positive. He also gives several conditions for a matrix to be completely positive.
