The goal of this paper is to understand the relationship between the geometry of manifold and the possible vector fields in each homotopy class (homotopy via nonsingular vetor fields). The author proves that the two vector fields are homotopic if and only if the linking number of those links is zero. The author indicates that his construction is more geometric than the construction of \textit{K. Yano} [Invent. Math. 80, 435-451 (1985; Zbl 0622.58018)] and presents a new proof of a result of Yano: every nonsingular vector field on the three-sphere is homotopic to a nonsingular Morse-Smale vector field.
