Eine mod. 4 mit 1 congruente Primzahl \(z\) lässt sich im wesentlichen nur auf eine Art als Summe zweier Quadrate \(z=a^2+b^2\) darstellen. Gilt für eine zweite solche Primzahl \(z\) entsprechend die Darstellung \(z_1=a_1^2+b_1^2\), so ist: \[ z\cdot z_1 = (aa_1\pm bb_1)^2 + (ab_1\mp ba_1)^2. \] Auf diese Weise gewinnt Verf. für eine aus \(m\) Primzahlen der Gestalt \(4h+1\) und einer beliebigen Potenz von 2 zusammengesetzte Zahl \(2^{m-1}\) Darstellungen als Summe zweier Quadrate.
