Der Verfasser hat in strenger Weise die Formel entwickelt, die die dehnende oder zusammenpressende Kraft ausdrückt im Verhältniss zwischen der Länge des Körpers und dem Zunehmen (positiv oder negativ) dieser Länge. Er bedient sich der Hypothese, dass die dehnende Kraft eine Function des erwähnten Verhältnisses sei.
