The author presents a formulation of elasticity and viscoelasticity for fibre-reinforced material at small and finite strains. The model is a unidirectional fiber-reinforced composite material. From the material point of view, such a material can be treated as a transversally isotropic elastic or viscoelastic material depending on the behavior of reinforcing fibers. The author studies the constitutive equations of linear and nonlinear transversally isotropic elastic or viscoelastic materials by collecting certain information from the literature. Then, for linear constitutive relations, the author determines material constants of certain composites existing in industrial applications. The paper is well documented and may be useful for those researchers working in the area of fiber-reinforced composite materials.
