The author proved the existence of closed hypersurfaces (spacelike) of prescribed mean curvature in a globally hyperbolic Lorentzian manifold with a compact Cauchy hypersurface in [Commun. Math. Phys. 89, 523-553 (1983; Zbl 0519.53056)]. Later \textit{K. Ecker} and \textit{G. Huisken} in [Commun. Math. Phys. 135, 595-613 (1991; Zbl 0721.53055)], gave another proof with restricted assumptions. In the paper under review the author gives another simple existence proof without Ecker's and Huisken's assumption.
