Various interesting theorems on lifting strong commutants of unbounded subnormal operators are proved. Some facts concerning strong symmetric commutants are stated in Section 2 and an unbounded version of the reviewer's lifting commutant theorem for bounded subnormal operators having minimal normal extensions of cyclic type is formulated in Sections 4 and 7. In Section 6, it is shown that the strong symmetric commutant of a closed symmetric operator \(S\) lifts to the strong commutant of some tight selfadjoint extension of \(S\). Strong symmetric commutants of orthogonal sums of subnormal operators are investigated in Section 8. Examples of irreducible subnormal operators, pure subnormal operators with rich strong symmetric commutatns and cyclic subnormal operators with highly nontrivial strong commutants are discussed in Section 9.
