Given a simple closed curve \(\alpha\) in the boundary of a knot complement \(K\), Dehn surgery along \(\alpha\) produces a closed manifold \(K(\alpha)\), defined up to homeomorphism, by attaching a solid torus \(T\) to \(K\) so that the attaching map takes a meridian on the boundary of \(T\) to \(\alpha\). The surgery is exceptional if \(K(\alpha)\) is not hyperbolic. The distance between \(K(\alpha)\) and \(K(\beta)\) is the minimal geometric intersection between \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\). In the article under review, the authors classify the hyperbolic knots \(K\) in \(S^3\) obtained from surgery on the minimally twisted 5-link that have a pair \(K(\alpha)\) and \(K(\beta)\) of exceptional surgeries that are a maximal distance apart. Specifically, \(K(\alpha)\) is a lens space and \(K(\beta)\) is either a lens space, a Seifert fibered space at distance 2, or a toriodal surgery at distance 3.
