A new class of regularizing preconditioners is introduced. It is shown that such preconditioners approximate the inverse of the system matrix. An analysis of earlier preconditioners is shown to apply to the proposed preconditioners. An investigation of the family of filtering super-optimal preconditioners is done. Numerical simulation of a simple test problem is performed and a set of prototypes of regularization preconditioners is proposed, compared and discussed.
