In his doctoral thesis sustained at the University of Stuttgart in [Die Folge der Betaoperatoren (1972)] \textit{A. Lupas} introduced the Beta operators \(L_n\) which are defined in a slightly different form by \textit{M. K. Khan} [Approximation properties of Beta operators, in: Progress in Approx. Theory, 483--495 (Academic Press, NY) (1991)] as follows \[ (L_nf)(x)= {1\over B(nx,n(1- x))} \int^1_0 t^{nx-1}(1- t)^{n(1-x)- 1}f(t)\,dt, \] where \(f\) is a Lebesgue integrable function on \((0,1)\), \(B\) being the beta function. In the present paper the authors study the rate of convergence of the operators \(L_n\). They give an estimate of \[ |(L_n f)(x)- \tfrac{1}{2}(f(x+)+ f(x-))| \] asymptotic expansion for the operators \(L_n\) for locally smooth functions. They give an asymptotic expansion into a reciprocal factorial series for the Beta operators applied to each integrable function on \((0,1)\) which is \(2q\) times differentiable at \(x\in (0,1)\), \(q\in\mathbb N\).
