The authors prove the inequality \[ \omega_ S^ 2 (f,1/\sqrt{n}) _{L_ 2(S)}\leq C\| M_ n f-f\|_{L_ 2(S)}, \] where \(M_ n\) is the Bernstein-Durrmeyer operator and \(\omega_ S\) is a measure of smoothness defined in the paper.
