The covering linkage invariants of a link L are the linking numbers of the various components of preimages of L in any branched covers M over L such that \(H_ 1(M, {\mathbb{Q}})=0\). The present paper concentrates on those covering linkage invariants which arise from abelian branched coverings. The author relates these to certain invariants taking values in quotients of power series rings. The latter can be defined even if \(H_ 1(M, {\mathbb{Q}})\neq 0\), and turn out to be concordance invariants of L.
