A FitzHugh-Nagumo type activator-inhibitor system in high dimension is studied. Spatially periodic stationary solutions are constructed and the singular limit energy is computed which indicates that the transition from planar structure to droplet pattern can occur when parameters change. The model has the mechanism of `lateral inhibition' which seems to play a big role in the plankton pattern formation.
