    A sequence \(\{A^p_k\}\), \(k \in \mathbb N\), \(p \in \{1,\dots,k\}\), that defines a two-parameter family of subsets of a bounded set in the Euclidean space \(\mathbb{R}^n\) satisfies the so called averaging theorem due to \textit{E. S. Polovinkin} [Lect. Notes Comput. Sci. 27, 405--410 (1975; Zbl 0321.49021)]: if we define the sets \[ D_k := \frac{1}{k} \sum_{p=1}^k A^p_k, \] then the limit set \(\lim \inf_{k \to \infty} D_k\) is a closed convex set. This result is relevant in the setting of Riemann integration of multivalued mappings. Later the same author [Sov. Math., Dokl. 28, 223--228 (1983; Zbl 0593.28009)] proved that this could be extended to the case of subsets of a Hilbert space. In the present paper the authors show that this can also be generalized to the case of subsets of a uniformly smooth Banach space (Theorem 2). Some consequences regarding multivalued mappings are also shown.
