Some abstract convergence and compactness properties are described for parabolic systems which can be written in a semilinear form \[ \dot{u}_i=-A_{i,\varepsilon }+f_{i,\varepsilon}, \quad i=1,\dots,r, \] and which are posed in \(\Omega \times(0,\infty)\), where \(\Omega\) is a bounded smooth domain in \(\mathbb{R}^N\), \(N\geq 2\). It is assumed that the parabolic system generates a local semiflow \(\pi _\varepsilon\) in \(H^1(\Omega, \mathbb{R}^r )\). The authors formulate conditions assuring a convergence in a certain singular sense of the semiflows \(\pi _\varepsilon\). For \(\varepsilon =0\) one obtains a semiflow generated by a certain system of ODEs in a subspace \(H^1_c(\Omega, \mathbb R ^r)\) of (equivalence classes of) constant functions. This enables the authors to apply their version of Conley index theory and use its continuation property. The results refine some of the earlier results of \textit{A. Rodríguez-Bernal} and \textit{R. Willie} [Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. B 5, No. 2, 385--410 (2005; Zbl 1071.35018)]. Then an example of a certain parabolic system with large diffusion is presented to satisfy the abstract conditions.
