\textit{F. S. Macaulay}'s theorem [Proceedings L. M. S. (2) 26, 531--555 (1927; JFM 53.0104.01)] states that for every graded ideal in the polynomial ring \(S=\mathbf{k}[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) there exists a lex ideal with the same Hilbert function. This theorem has been extended to ideals in other rings like \textit{G. F. Clements} and \textit{B. Lindström} rings [J. Comb. Theory 7, 230--238 (1969; Zbl 0186.01704)] or projective toric rings of rational normal curves \textit{V. Gasharov, N. Horwitz} and \textit{I. Peeva} [Mich. Math. J. 57, 339--357 (2008; Zbl 1183.13031)]. The present paper studies whether Macaulay's theorem holds for other monomial curves. Theorems 4.1 and 5.1 give some families of monomial curves for which Macaulay's theorem holds and Theorem 5.5 gives a family of monomial curves for which Macaulay's theorem does not hold.
