The author proves that the volume of a simple Riemannian metric on the \(n\)-dimensional disc is locally monotone with respect to its boundary distance function. This result is generalized for the Holmes-Thompson volume of a simple Finsler metric. The paper contains also a new proof of injectivity of the geodesic ray transform for a simple Finsler metric.
