The authors apply thin plate splines (TPS) techniques to real image warping problems. They find that the use of TPS-based warping in ``large'' problems is limited by (i) numerical instability in the calculation of TPS coefficients and (ii) intensive computation, involved in evaluating TPS functions. They document that both drawbacks can be overcome by taking advantage of the advances in the numerical analysis of radial base functions.
