The authors study theta lifts between representations of the symplectic \(p\)-adic group \(Sp(n)\) and the special even-orthogonal group \(SO(2r)\). They show that the correspondence arising from the Weil representation is functorial for generic square integrable representations. The main tools in their paper are the theory of \(L\)-functions of Shahidi and the square integrability criterion of the second author for generic representations. This criterion is in terms of the \(L\)-functions.
