This paper fits in the programme of studying representations of real semisimple Lie groups on cohomology of groups of lines bundles on flag domains of their complexifications. Let \(G\) be a complex semisimple Lie group and \(P\) a parabolic subgroup. Let \(G_0\subset G\) be a real form of \(G\) and \(K_0\) a maximal compact subgroup of \(G_0\). By a classical result of Wolf, \(G_0\) has a finite number of orbits in \(G/P\) and hence there is an open \(G_0\)-orbit. If \(D=G_0(z)\) is such an orbit, then for an appropriate choice of \(z\in D\), \(Y= K_0(z)\) is a maximal compact submanifold of \(D\). The linear cycle space \(M_D\) is the connected component of \(\{gY|gY\subset D\), \(g\in G\}\) containing \(Y\) in the homogeneous space \(\{gY:g\in G\}\). It is known that \(M_D\) is Stein [\textit{J. A. Wolf}, Ann. Math., II. Ser. 136, No. 3, 541-555 (1992; Zbl 0771.32016)]. In this paper it is shown that if \(G_0\) is classical and of Hermitian type, then \(M_D\cong G_0/K_0\), \(\overline {G_0/K_0}\) or to \(G_0/K \times \overline {G_0/K_0}\). The restriction to classical groups stems from the use in some proofs of geometric realizations of flag spaces for classical groups.
