The compressible Euler equations with frictional damping arise from the one-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations under additional simplifying assumptions on the microstructure. The authors analyze a Riemann-type initial value problem and study the interaction of waves. Interesting asymptotic results can be derived from this analysis. Glimm's scheme is used to study solutions to the initial value problem.
