This paper deals with the problem of constructing Galois extensions \(M/L\), with prescribed Galois group \(G\) and restricted ramification, where \(L\) is a number field of bounded degree over a base field \(K\). Specifically, the authors succeed in constructing infinitely many such extensions where: \begin{itemize} \item \(K\) is a cyclotomic extension of \(\mathbb{Q}\), \item \(L\) a quadratic extension of \(K\), \item \(G\) the Heisenberg group of \(3\times 3\) unipotent matrices with coefficients in \(\mathbb{Z}/n\mathbb{Z}\), \item \(M/L\) is unramified at all finite places of \(L\). \end{itemize} Existing results show that it is sufficient for this to construct a \(G\)-cover \(C' \to C\) of algebraic curves with appropriate properties. The main theorem of the paper does just that, with \(C\) a hyperelliptic curve. The authors state that the result can probably be extended to more general nilpotent groups, at the cost of dealing with higher Massey products.
