The paper under review deals with the so-called minor problem, i.e., finding the eigenvalues of \((n-1)\times (n-1)\) submatrices of a fixed \(n\times n\) Hermitian matrix whose spectrum is known. The author bridges this problem with branching rules for special unitary groups, namely the multiplicities (or coefficients) of restrictions of highest weight irreducible representations of \(SU(n)\) to \(SU(n-1)\). The main result is contained in Theorem 2, it describes the multiplicities in terms of integrals over \(U(n)\)-orbits and orbital measures.
