The author proves that each seminorm defined on a real or complex vector space can be represented as a composition of a linear function followed by a norm and shows some applications. Thus he characterises cylinders and barrels (here called kegs) as the sum of a ball and some complementary subspace, in the latter case if the space is finite-dimensional. Also, he generalises the notion of an orthogonally additive group-valued and an orthogonally increasing real-valued function, respectively, defined on a normed space to one defined on a semi-normed space and shows how the respresentation of such a function can be deduced from that of a corresponding function defined on a normed space.
