Let \(G\) be a finite group, and let \(M\) be a normal subgroup of \(G\) which is the central product of subgroups \(H_1,\ldots,H_n\) which are permuted under conjugation within \(G\). An interesting special case is the situation where \( H_1,\ldots,H_n\) are the components of \(G\) and \(M=E(G)\) is the layer of \(G\). In the paper under review, the author proves a number of basic results on the Clifford theory of these blocks. In particular, he considers the blocks of \(G\) covering a block of \(M\) which covers a nilpotent block (or a block of defect zero) of \(H_i\) for \(i=1,\ldots,n\).
