The characterization of ergodic 1-Lipschitz functions on the 2-adic integers in terms of their Mahler expansion (i.e., expansion as \(\sum^\infty_{n=0} a_n{x\choose n}\)) was given in a paper by \textit{V. S. Anashin} [Math. Notes 55, No. 2, 109--133 (1994; Zbl 0835.11031); translation from Mat. Zametki 55, No. 2, 3--46 (1994)]. That paper used a ``folklore criterion'' (Theorem 4.39 in the book ``Applied algebraic dynamics'' by \textit{V. Anashin} and \textit{A. Khrennikov} [de Gruyter Expositions in Mathematics 49. Berlin: Walter de Gruyter, xxiv, 533 p. (2009; Zbl 1184.37002)]). The paper under review provides a \(q\)-analog of this result without using that folklore criterion: the Mahler base \({x\choose n}\) is replaced by the \(q\)-Mahler base \({x\choose n}_q\), so that the result of the author contains Anashin's result by taking \(q=1\).
