The author investigates integral operators on \(L_{p}({\mathbb R}^{n})\) or \(L_{p}({\mathbb R}^{n_{1}}\times {\mathbb R}^{n_{2}})\) (\(1\leq p<\infty\)) having kernels satisfying some homogeneity conditions. As usually, such operators on \(L_{p}({\mathbb R}^{n})\) are investigated using isomorphism between \(L_{p}({\mathbb R}^{n})\) and weighted \(L_{p}\)-space on \({\mathbb R_{+}}\times S_{n-1}\) (\(S_{n-1}\subset {\mathbb R}^{n}\) is the unit sphere), defined with the use of polar spatial coordinates. The author introduces the kernels of compact type. Consider the function on \({\mathbb R_{+}}\times{\mathbb R_{+}}\times S_{n-1}\times S_{n-1}\) represented as the finite sum \(\sum f_{i}\otimes g_{i}\), where the \(f_{i}\) are homogeneous functions on \({\mathbb R}_{+}\times {\mathbb R}_{+}\) satisfying the standard conditions and \(g_{i}\in S_{n-1}\times S_{n-1}\) (so the integral operators on \(L_{p}(S_{n-1})\) with such kernels are compact). The Banach algebra of linear bounded operators on \(L_{p}({\mathbb R}^{n})\) generated by linear operators with such kernels, transferred to \({\mathbb R}^{n}\times {\mathbb R}^{n}\) using the change of variables mentioned above, is denoted by \({\mathfrak V}_{p,n}\). The class of multiplicatively weakly oscillating functions consists of all continuous bounded functions on \({\mathbb R}^ {n}\setminus \{ 0\} \) such that for every \(r>0\) \(\lim_{|x|\to \infty} \sup_{y\in\Delta_{r,x}}\{ |f(x)-f(y)|\} =0\), and a similar equality holds as \(|x|\to 0\), here \(\Delta_{r,x}=\{ x'\in{\mathbb R}^{n}:|x|e^{-r}\leq |x'|\leq |x|e^{r}\} \). The main object of the investigation is the Banach algebra \({\mathfrak M}_{p,n}\) of linear bounded operators on \(L_{p}({\mathbb R}^{n})\) generated by operators of the form \(\lambda I+\sum\varphi_{i}B_{i}+T\), where \(\lambda\in \mathbb C\), the index of the sum runs over a finite set, the \(\varphi_{i}\) are multiplicatively weakly oscillating functions, \(B_{i}\in {\mathfrak V}_{p,n}\), \(T\) is a compact operator. The author constructs the symbolic calculus for the algebra \({\mathfrak M}_{p,n}\) and gives necessary and sufficient conditions for the Fredholm property for these operators. He proposes a method of calculating the index of families for the operators under consideration. Similar results are obtained for the Banach algebra \({\mathfrak M}_{p,n_{1}}\otimes {\mathfrak M}_{p,n_{2}}\) of operators on \(L_{p}({\mathbb R}^{n_{1}}\times {\mathbb R}^{n_{2}})\).
